Cancel Culture

I know my thinking takes radical turns.  I happened upon something on tv that has caused me to investigate it further.  I had heard the term, but I only had a vague idea of what it meant.  I decided I wanted to know more.  The term was “cancel culture.”
It did not take me looking very deeply into it to make me know this is controversial ground.  One side of politics seems to have embraced it.  I did not want to come at anything from a political point of view.  There are those who see it as a freedom of expression and others who see it as a gaging of expression. I wanted to look at the subject as neutrally as I could.
All I know is what I had seen of it I did not like.  It appeared to me that if someone expressed a minority view, they were likely to be made look an idiot at best and “cancelled” at worst (cancelled involving all sorts of injustices being justified.)
The major heading from looking up cancel culture was ostracism.  It was not a good look.  “Cancel culture or call-out culture is a phrase contemporary to the late 2010s and early 2020s used to refer to a form of ostracism in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles – whether it be online, on social media, or in person.”
Those who know me know I have a problem with such things, because the prevailing view expressed may be embraced by a majority, but not necessarily be accurate.  I must admit I am seeing a bit of it in the media these days.  Promoting a view and making those who disagree look like idiots at best.  I will never forget an ad on Foxtel I liked which said, “there is bad in good people, and good in bad people.”
In my mind there are times when a person needs to be called out for the real protection of the community.  My problem is something being right once does not make it right all the time.  A lady said they had had miscarriages, but nothing compared to the online feedback they received as a result of expressing an alternative view.
I have experienced a little of that and all I can say is it left me flabbergasted.  All I could do was continue to love and walk away.  I could only look at my motives and once satisfied, be satisfied.  I was confident in myself that what I had expressed was coming from an honest place.  And although others misjudged my motives, I had remained true to myself.
To me that is the bottom line.  An open person acknowledges error but does not embraced error.  Even if error has been embraced by the majority.  The best I can do is be true to myself which means loving despite not because.
