I often like surprises and it seems the older I get the more I get.  Though the one I got yesterday is not the sort I get off on.  I like to put activities into one day.  Rather than set the next day to do things I schedule things following each other, which leaves the next day free to do other stuff.
Yesterday we had three things planned.  First up there were people coming over for breakfast and a chat.  There were eleven if us.  I normally cook sausages, onions and bacon on the bbq.  Merril helps out by cooking the scrambled eggs.  I reckon yesterday was my worst effort yet.  My excuse is I was wearing safety goggles and it affected what I saw.  That is my excuse anyway.  The bacon was overcooked.
Someone commented on how many sausages there were.  There was a reason there were so many.  I normally get 30.  All I saw were packs of 24.  So I got two of them which meant I ended up with 48 sausages.  I cook on the Friday and reheat on the Saturday.  The reheating process is easier now.  It used to be the bbq was turned back on to reheat them, but now they are reheated in the oven.
After this Merril and I spent time with a fella we know who had not long ago had a birthday.  We would have preferred we did not say we needed to be elsewhere, but we did, so the time together was cut short.
Then we grabbed the trailer to move stuff.  There was less of that then we thought so only one car needed to make two trips.  Merril and I took a pile of stuff to the treasure market.  We then went home for lunch and a break.
In the afternoon we set up and cleaned a place we have volunteered to do.  A couple of others were there, and we are finding it is way less work with a few people.
We sort of determined that when that was finished it would mark the end of the activity we had planned for the day.  It was then I discovered something about myself that is new.
I slept.  And slept.  And slept.  I was lying there wondering if it was morning.  It was then I discovered it was midnight and I had gone to sleep mid-afternoon.  I was awake.  Got up and had dinner.  I then tidied the shed from the morning.  That must have seemed weird as I was doing it at one am, but I was awake.  Not for long though.  I went back to bed.
I love what we do and would not have it any other way, but I have come to realize there are two things at work that are in play now, but were not once.  Getting older means I do not have the staying power I once did, and another thing does that too.
Still, I will do what I can while I can.  The next day was a veg day.  A do nothing day.  Plan nothing and be nowhere day.  Whatever there is to do (and we have plenty planned) can wait.  Today is not the day for it.
