Burning Off

We have a little Webber BBQ.  When I say little, it is big enough for us to burn off papers while the fire is contained.
Late yesterday and into the evening, Merril and I sat at the bbq and scrunched up papers and threw them on the fire.  We sat in chairs and had spotify music playing as we did it.  Oh and we had coffee.  It was an enjoyable evening and one we decided we should do again.
I took something Merril said as a challenge.  She noted that when air was present under the bbq it burned better.  She made the comment that there must be a lesson somewhere in the presence of oxygen for the flame.
I thought, “that is what I do.”  I like to think about everyday things and see what may be another lesson in it for me.  So I have been thinking about what she said and think there is something more to it.
What gets me is that without the presence of a flow through of air the fuel is smothered.  It burns for sure but not as it could.  We really need to keep stoking the fire to ensure things burn.  Yet it seems when there is a flow through of oxygen the fire can more readily be left to itself and burns up more naturally.  We then are able to sit and reminisce and drink our coffee more readily.
To me it is similar in the every day.  Sometimes things are more of an effort than they need to be.  Certainly they get done but the addition of something that is unknowingly needed, makes it easier and more thorough.
I relate it best to things I need to do that take time and effort.  Sometimes I get things done but it is an exercise in frustration.  At other times solutions to problems come easier.  To me it can be a case of ensuring I have all that is needed as opposed to most of what is needed.  What can take hours can take minutes with the right tool.
I am ok with doing what needs to be done, but I am more hesitant if I know I do not have what is needed for getting the job done properly and as easily as it can.
Like with burning off the papers, setting the right conditions makes the job way easier.
