Buck

Dictionary day again.  It could have been worse but this time my finger fell on “buck” -  as in male deer – or antelope, or ferret or rat.  Or Reindeer.  Rudolph would have been a buck.
It is actually deer that I am thinking off.   Not that I have had much experience with deer though.  It is not that they are not around, it is just they are not around here.  There are places in Brisbane I believe where wild deer are a problem.
They are one of the reasons I am suspicious of what is reported.  A friend reported that a person they knew was interviewed about a deer problem being experienced in Brisbane.  It was necessary to cull to bring the situation under control.  This person said it was a pity they had to cull, but it was necessary.  All that was reported was the person saying it was a pity.  The report gave the impression that this person was totally against the cull.   It was wrong.  They were not.  It was felt the cull just had to be.
I have seen deer in the US when I visited there, but a person is not encouraged to mix with the wildlife because of Rabies.
I think it was an Antelope I met.  I was going for a walk in Yosemite National Park.  It was early and I was by myself.  I did not know what I would meet.  I do not know who was startled the greater.  An Antelope I came across, or me.  Anyway, we both took flight.  I hurried back to where I was staying, and he went - I do not know where – where startled Antelopes go I guess.
I would not go walking there by myself these days as they have reintroduced wolves into the park.  I guess it is a bit like going north to where I grew up.  Creeks I used to swim in now have signs saying not to swim there because of the crocodiles.  I have never known better fishing there though.
Different wildlife belongs in different places.  This was not their home.  Like much introduced wildlife, I do not blame them for being here and they are just trying to hustle up a living.  They may not belong here, but they are cute from afar.
