Boomers

One of the first things I do when I get up is have a coffee and go through my emails.  I never know what I will find apart from a few regular ones I get.
Today I got an email about something I am passionate about.  No doubt because it is about something I feel I can relate to, as I am one of them.  It concerns the different generations like alpha, gen x, millennials, boomers and seniors.
I am a boomer.  I think they are considered to be those born from 1946 to 1954.  Seniors are those born before that date.  I could be a boomer and not really care so much about my generation and older, but I do.  It is the way I am wired.
My chief concern for us is a no brainer really.  It is a sense of usefulness that seems to be promoted.  It is said, “life is for the young” and “it’s a young persons world”.  That is true and our chance to shine is diminishing and younger peoples stars are growing brighter.  That to me is understandable.
I have a problem with the casting off of older people.  The sense of “go away old man”.  It is not nice to say, but the sense that some are just waiting for us to die.  I get that feeling with legacy things like banks.  I feel that so much is in place while the older ones are around and will be discarded at the first chance.
What I do not like and is totally untrue is older people have outlived their usefulness.  To me older people have so much to give.  They are part of a healthy mix.  I confess I feel totally honoured to know some of the people I know.
Talk about gold.  It seems to me sometimes some do not know what is in their mix.  Certainly it is not true in all cases - but it is in many, that elderly people represent wisdom and stability.  Being involved in the long term.
Younger people can learn from older ones and vice versa.  We are all in this together and I will take help wherever it comes from.
