Books

So many books so little time.  Merril and I are doing some volunteer work.  One of the tasks is to monthly visit a book shop and pick out a pile of books for sale.  We are also setting up a lending library.  My bro is helping big time with that.
What has struck me is the number of good books out there.  There are so many I would like to read.  It has occurred to me in recent times, that even titles that are dismissed and seemingly inconsequential to me, often represent the time-consuming study of a person.  I may not be able to relate to it at this time, but the contents of what is written represents something learned along the way.
The book may not be a best seller, and it may just be one of many, but examination of it reveals it often meant a lot to the author.  I say often, because as I heard the other night, some writers just do so to make money.  And some do it very successfully.
What I have seen with new eyes is the importance of a good title.  I think I am like everyone in that it is the title that often gets me in first.   Probably many a good book has been overlooked as it did not have a title that grabbed.  People probably have all sorts of memories, but to me it is one of the reasons why having a good slogan or title means so much.  “Its’ Time” lives on in my memory.  “Make America great again” probably will too.  “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale stands out to me.  As does “If it is to be, it is up to me” by Robert Schuller.  I must admit I knew that as a saying before I knew it was a book.  I found it was not only true, but each word was only two letters.
To assist me in my quest to read more in the same amount of time I have a book called “How to triple your reading speed.”  I have tried this before, but my comprehension suffered.  Even reading at the speed I do sometimes I ask myself “what you talkin bout Willis?” (that would be lost on many).  I need to re-read some things before I understand.
The trouble with my new book is it is so big.  It is not one to be digested in one sitting (for me anyway).  I guess it is a test of do I really want to do this or not.  There is no doubt the spirit is willing, but I know the flesh is weak.
Still, there is a lot of good stuff out there.  I want to take in as much as I can.  *sigh. *  I guess it will help to read this book.
