Book Cover

“Don’t judge a book by its cover.”  I don’t even remember the name of the book I read.  The title and the cover were inconspicuous, but boy was it a good read.  Although I read it many years ago, I have never forgotten some of the images.
If I spend enough time with people, I get to know what they are like.  What is inside comes out.  But when I first meet someone it is a different story.  I am really good at looking at the outside when it is what is inside that really defines a person.
There are people that seem to be the bees knees.  Everything about them looks good, but soon it is revealed that so much is a front.  They are not what they appear to be.
Appearances seem to me to be an inexact expression of what may be inside.  By the same token as someone looking good, a person may look like a lost cause, but be invaluable.  As they say, appearances can be deceptive.
There is a guy I know that I reckon has a heart of gold.  He is despised and rejected by others.  If I only knew him on a very occasional basis, I no doubt would feel the same.  The thing is, he is the one that will help.  When others more able and more skilled refuse to provide aid, he will be in there boots and all.  He has his own set of skills he brings to the table.  They are not the same as others, and they may not be as good, but they are available.  Huge plus in my mind.  No wonder they say “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.”
There is someone else I know like that.  He would be the first person I would pick.  In the eyes of others it would be “why?”  But in my eyes it is “there’s an asset if ever I knew one.”
I know a lady who has had an incredibly hard life.  If anyone deserves to moan it is her.  But she doesn’t do it.  She helps.  Despite adversity, she helps.  And cheerfully.
My first two names mean the rock and stern faced.  My brother was working with me and someone at work wanted to know which of us was adopted.  My boss said to someone who thought I had no sense of humour “just get to know him and you will see different.”  The difference in outlook is what I am talking about.  One person judged only on a brief exposure, while the other had got to know me.
My cover may be all bright and shinny.  I may look the part.  That does not mean though that I am the part.  It is probably best to read the book before deciding.
