Bloom

I was wandering about the yard.  Merril was vacuuming around where I sit and who am I to get in the way?  So I had a wander.
What struck me was the number of plants in bloom.  Some seem to not be concerned about seasons.  There are others that wait for the cold.  We have Orchids like that.  They are real pretty.  Most of the year they are just green.  This time of year they flower.  So worth the wait.  We also have other plants like that.  We knew the day was getting closer but now they are blooming reds and another plant is pinky white.  They look spectacular.
I am really impressed with the plastic ones too as they always seem to be in bloom.
We only have a couple of dwarf roses now and they are pretty much always in bloom.  We used to have other roses, but they did not get enough sun.  They flowered best in winter (ok this is not winter yet but it is really close) The flowers were the largest then.  They bloomed and looked great, but they were on the way out the moment they were planted.  We did plant one in the front which gets sun most of the day.  The label said it would become a certain shape and that is what we wanted.  We were unprepared for the monster it became.  It had to go.
I am really glad there are plants that bloom at this time of year.  Many are dormant but others thrive on the cold.  That is good for the birds.  No matter what the time of the year they always have tucker.  We have learned we need not be concerned.  The birds always have plants they can go to for a feed.
I am always amazed at the winter bloomers, but I really love that they are there.  They do remind me that it is often in the hardest times the thing of most beauty springs up in my life.
I am from Townsville.  I am really not a cold person.  I know this is not really cold, but it is all relative.  Compared to Townsville, this is freezing.
But wherever it is in the winter season, much happens behind the scenes.  I do not wish it on myself or anyone else but so often it is in the winter season things become most real to me.  It is almost like a contrast thing.  Just when I think plants should just hunker down for the winter, they surprise me by blooming.
I get surprised when something in my life becomes most clear and is the most real to me in the hard times.  Just when I feel I am in survival mode something blooms.  There is no doubt I like it, but I have a feeling it only blooms in winter.
