Bite Size

I am in the habit of starting small.  My thinking is I would rather celebrate my victories than set myself higher tasks and fail.  I may eventually want to be where the higher task sits, but as they say Rome was not built in a day.
It is probably a bit like how I treat huge tasks I need to do.  I like to break it down into what I consider are doable bits.  That way I think “I can do that.”  If I keep on doing that then the task gets done.
That is opposed to seeing the task as one unit.  I may be inclined to think, “that is too daunting,” and end up doing nothing.  It is guaranteed that to do nothing about something that needs to be done, will make the task even bigger.
I turned our front yard which was just grass into a “bush garden.”  It was a big task and I am sure there are those who would say “it looked better before” while others say “I like that.”  Anyway it was a big task.  But I just did it a bit at a time.  A bit at a time I could do.  All at once would have seen me probably do nothing.
I don’t always do what I say but I do give it my best shot and most of the time I succeed.  I have had enough of failure.  I want to succeed and what works for me is putting things into bite size bits.
Once upon a time I may have been like a bull at a gate.  These days to achieve the same thing I am more measured in my approach.  I think I cause less damage to others and to myself.
I really feel it when people say to me they are going to do this big thing in response to what they see as something to be overcome.  To me that is great if it happens.  But for me overcoming a big thing is sometimes broken into many parts.
What is real to me I see like a map.  The middle country represents what I want to achieve.  Instead of attacking the country head on, I am dealing with smaller countries all around what is my main aim.  I feel there is strength gained and positionally I will be better off in dealing with the country that is my goal.
That probably fits in with my philosophy.  I guess it is why something said to me made such an impression.  I had to find a security company to collect, count and bank our money.  One of the big players was going to cost a fortune.  We went with a smaller one that did great.  I will never forget one of the owners telling me, “we are not one of the big players but are like the seagulls around the trawlers.”  Well fed seagulls I might add.  I have never encounted such security in a building.
Lots of small, make a big.
