Birthdays

Talk about inclement weather!  First it was drought, drought, drought.  Then it was rain, rain, rain.  Not that we are seeing a lot of it in Burpengary.  We have been on the Sunshine Coast.  Strange name.  It seems to rain here, when it does not elsewhere.  We drove into it.  We saw the rain line ahead, and all the cars coming from the coast, had their lights on.  It was plain they had been through rain.  Oh and it was cold.  Not Artic Cold, but cold by our standards.  Jumper cold.  Last week it was hot.  Summer hot.  It is that time of year. And it was windy.  Not cyclone windy, but howling wind windy.
We were there for a birthday celebration.  Merrils and her nephews.  It was nice that we were invited to the do.  It was really a young persons do, and some of us young at heart people were invited. Ok, so we mostly stuck together and conversed with each other, but we enjoyed ourselves.  Oh, and we probably left earlier than some too, but hey, I need all the help I can get with my beauty sleep.
One of Merril’s sister had booked a unit for us to stay at.  As play school would say, one of these things is not like the other.  That was me.   See, I was the only morning person.  The other six were night people.  When I was working I always liked the weekends.  It was great to know, that even though mostly I did not, I had the option of lying in if I wanted to.
Anyway to this day I still get up early.  I mean like four am early.  The unit was so quiet and dark.  Before I got up, I tried lying there looking at the ceiling, but that did not help.  I eventually got up.  The trouble for me was, I did not know there was someone asleep in the lounge.  I got up, turned on the light and the very noisy kettle, and then discovered there was someone else there. I scoffed down my coffee and left.
A breakfast get together had been arranged.  It was for 9am.  That seemed late, but one thing is for sure, with kids it is not.  9am rolled around really quickly.  9am though was, for Merril and I, just a number that came and went, as we got totally lost trying to find the place. We knew we were lost when we were on the highway heading back to Brisbane.  We took the first turn off we could back north.  It was at that point we turned to technology, and it helped us locate where we were going.
It was totally worth it. The company, food and location was really good.
We were supposed to go to the Sunshine Coast again to celebrate another birthday.  We have called that off.  There is supposed to be another 100 ml of rain this week end. We know of three people already, who were involved in events that have been either called off or abandoned this week end.  One lot of wind, rain and cold is enough for us.
After all, we are getting ol… younger at heart.  My wife has gone to check there are no leaks in her eyelids.  I reckon I will follow in her footsteps.
