Birthday

It is Merril’s birthday today.
It is a date I would remember anyway but there are two other ways I know.  Merril constantly reminds me it is coming up.  The other way is the number plate on her car.  OCT 012.  She was given that as a birthday present from her sister a while ago.
Last year someone commented on it on the day, and someone commented on it yesterday.
It is a time for gift giving.  I try to tell Merril it is more blessed to give then to receive but that is for me really.  I think she deliberately does not get the subtlety of my suggestion.
But I must admit I constantly remind her when mine is coming up.  As I do others (I know you have been saving all year for it, and I can give you the bank account later).
I am probably not as romantic as I could be at this time.  I like to give what I know is needed, or the person wants, rather than give and hope.  Politeness always responds with a like but I am one that likes to get money so I can get what I am after if I have not been hinting about it already.
Having said that I like to give surprises as well.  I guess that is secretly because I like surprises myself.  That takes some hunting and I admit I am not good at exploring the shops.  I am one to get in and get out but there comes a time when it is appropriate to linger and look.
I have given the main present but Merril will be out for the day and I will be doing some exploring today.  Normally it is all done before now but I am reminded of what a friend of ours calls getting up really early to do a photo shoot.  Stupid o’clock.  We have both been stupid busy.  We have also planed to go out for dinner this evening.
I must admit it is fun looking for stuff.  The time and effort is worth it when I see the expression of joy on Merril’s face.
I honestly think I hit the jack pot with Merril.  It is wonderful to be of one heart and mind.  Today is special day.  Not just for her but for me as well I reckon.
