Bird Watching

We have a few different types of birds visit us.  But none of them are out of the ordinary and are basically what is seen around the place.
I have deliberately chased off Butcher birds and Magpies.  I have seen it elsewhere that they are dominant birds.  When they are allowed to stay people tend to end up with one type of bird.  I chased off a Butcher bird here (over several days) and he was so surprised.  It seems that is not normally done.
We have Indian Mynas.  Such an incredibly large flock has decided our tree is a good nesting place.  We call individuals Terry.  We call all individuals Terry.  There are just so many that we say there is Terry one Terry two etc.
We call the Peewee couple Toby Mac.  Toby is the boy and Mac (for Maxine) is the girl.  They can be told apart.  The boy has long distinguishing eyebrows.  In the bird hierarchy they are sort of up there.  They don’t take any nonsense, but they know Crows and Corellas get to eat first.
We also have lots of Lorikeets.  They don’t have name but are real pretty and very welcome.  They wait for food (seed) to be brought out.  Other birds tend to give them a wide birth.  They can very much peck hard and bird legs are very vulnerable.
We also see Doves regularly.  Peaceful Doves.  I do sort of admire Doves.  They just wait.  They don’t seem to be in a hurry.  Judging by the number of them around it seems this philosophy works for them.  We are also seeing Crested Pigeons again.  I think some are realizing there is a food source they could access.   They disappeared for a while but seem to have made a return.
There are a couple of Little Wattle Birds.  They like the front garden.  Occasionally they venture into the back yard.  The Australian Mynars give them a hard time.  We call the Australian Mynars the “gang.”  Together they are tough.  One on one they are wimps.
We do enjoy watching the birds.  One Peewee we call “the mad Peewee” as it likes to land on Merril’s cars windscreen and it slides down.  It tries to walk up the windscreen but slides down every time.  Without fail.  Every time but never learns.
The birds behaviours make us laugh.  They are good to have around and those we encourage are more and more trusting.  That is reassuring as we do try to be trustworthy.  It is great some birds bring their little ones into the yard.
I read the other day “how you spend your time is how you spend your life.”  I admit it.  Part of my life is spent watching the birds and I love it.
