Big & Little

This seems incredibly obvious, but it is something I hold to.  The more room I give something the less room there is for other things.
I apply it mostly to my faith, but it occurred to me today it is true in a number of things.  I make it sound like I do it a lot, but I don’t, but every time I look at and work on my stamp collection it is big in my mind.  There is no room for other things.  It grows bigger and other things grow smaller.
The same is true for anything I put my hand to.  It absorbs my attention.  Other things can get my attention, but I assign them to the back burner unless they need to be dealt with immediately.  It is just the way I am.
I know that if I let it, everything I do will be decided for me.  Even well meaning people assign tasks to empty hands.  It is up to me to determine what I want and go for it.  I don’t blame people at all, but anyone will use anyone to achieve their aims.  It is up to me alone if the cause is one I am intending to go along with.  If it is, I willingly submit to another’s vision.  If it is not, I use a word that may be hard to say but gets easier the more it happens.  “No”
No does not necessarily mean I do not support what is being achieved, but it does mean I am not available to help except to cheer from the sidelines – and to maybe help out when needed as one offs.
There is a good chance there is already something big in my mind.  Not just individual tasks, but the overarching dream.  An overarching dream to me does not give up due to setbacks.  They can be hard to take for sure, and may cause a temporary questioning, but what I believe in is bigger than any set back.
That does not mean I am not open to readjustments.  I get it wrong.  But readjusting is born of doing in the first place rather than waiting.  To me half the battle is getting started.  Personally, I would rather readjust something then do nothing to start with.
When something is big in my mind, I pursue that, and lessor things assume their rightful place.
