Better World

I was listening to a song before, and I got the words wrong. But I did really like what I thought it said. I thought it said, “better world.”

I really enjoy my life. I reckon I am fairly fortunate. Actually, very fortunate. Living here is so good. My friends, family, country, church, and the political system I reckon is as good as it gets.

There is no doubt in my mind things could be improved, and I strive for that, but it seems I come from a pretty good base.
The percentage of the world’s population that has a roof over their head and three square meals a day is pretty low. Even lower when security is thrown in. All in all, I know I had no choice in where I was born, but of all places to be born this is great.

For all that, I have a longing. A sense that no matter how good it is, there is a weariness that comes with the territory. A knowing that as good as it is, it is not as good as it gets.

I get absorbed in living and days become weeks which become years. Yet I know that after years there is forever. From what I can gather that’s a pretty long time. Everyone I talk to has eternity in their hearts. It seems to be the disposition of humans to crave the supernatural. Rationalism denies it by day and absorbs it by night.
Just because I deny the exitance of something does not mean it does not exist. When a car is hurtling towards me, it does not go away because I deny its presence.

I knew a fella who would say “I’m satisfied with an unsatisfied satisfaction.” That’s me. I am satisfied. I like life and am thankful. Yet at the same time I am unsatisfied. I know there is more. I guess that is human nature. Nothing would be achieved if everyone was satisfied with the way it is. Change is sought. Change is fought for. Improvement are chased after.

I cannot forget the people who did not help a drowning person in “The Time Machine.” The people were satisfied. They had all they needed and when someone else was in trouble it was the person’s problem. Not theirs.

I know change will happen. I may not like that it will, and I may even deny it, but that will not stop it happening. It seems to me the best I can do is embrace the change for the better. It is the only way I will experience a better world.
