We have a crow family that visits our joint.  We have taken to feeding them.  If Merril is tardy in doing so, they sit outside the window and let her know they are there.  Ok so there are crows everywhere but even if we are kilometres from home, it is asked is that our crow?  So Errol and Evelyn (mum and dad) and Eve (baby) look to me like any other crows, but because I am looking for them I find them (even if I am deluded).
At the moment I am reading a speech by a Roman Senator called Cicero.  He had inside information that another Senator called Catiline was planning to usurp power.  A part of one sentence in what he said has stood out to me. “…I watch far more actively for the safety then you do [Catiline was present] for the destruction of the Republic.”
Why this has hit me is that I tend to see what I am looking for.  If I am looking for the worst, that is what I see.  Too bad that many other good things may have happened.  I tend not to see them.  I look for the worst and find it. “See I told you.” “I knew that would happen!”  It does not mean that bad things do not happen, but they tend to be majors rather than minors in my scheme of things.
What is even worse for me is if I see an accumulation of bad things.  Before I know it, my actions are based on the worst rather than the best.  I need to take the necessary precautions, but they should remain precautions rather than expectations.
I have no idea where this virus will lead and what will happen to me and those I love.  Actions seem to be based at the moment on probabilities based on previous outbreaks.  I am all for precautions.  I am not all for some of the madness I have seen as in the great toilet paper shortage.  (It seems that could have been the tip of the iceberg.)  I find that behaviour so lemming like (lemmings rushing over a cliff together is a myth borne of a story line in a movie).
I cannot talk, because if this were different that would be me.  One thing I can confidently say though is this will come and pass even if it has the title of the Virus Outbreak of 2020.
I will take precautions, and things may get really bad.  But it seems some spend so much time avoiding the worst, they miss the best.  I am not in denial, but the rhyme rings in my ears, “for you and me, the best is yet to be.”
The best may not be as obvious as it was, but it is there, and it is what I am looking for.
