It is a challenge I have decided to accept.  Goodness knows why.  I have found a dictionary that will be the dictionary I go to for words.
It is not like in the Jerk where he was so excited to be in the phone book stating “do you know how many people read this every day?”  The next scene showed someone who wanted to do in a random person, shutting their eyes and choosing whoever their finger landed on.  It was the Jerks name.
The word my finger fell on this time was “below.”
I’m not intimidated but perhaps I should be.  Maybe this sense of confidence is based on my previous truly bad experiences.  On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being really bad I reckon “which” is a 12.  Even “Muffin” is right up there.  On that basis “below” seems to only be like a 9.
In most cases below for me implies out of sight.  Unless of course it is clear water.  In that case the fish may be below the surface.  The explosives though should see to it that is only temporary.
Out of sight, out of mind.  But that is not the case for leaf litter.  For me the possibility in one place in our yard of there being a snake, keeps them very much in mind even though they are out of sight.  It does not help that I look a news item about the most deadly snakes in the world.  Not wanting to think about something, and choosing to think about it sort of do not go together.
I don’t know that I agree with “what you don’t know can’t hurt you.”  What I don’t know can hurt me.  There may be something below the surface waiting for me to walk by.  It may not have my best interests at heart.  For sure it has theirs.
Not knowing is not a defence.  I cannot prepare if I do not know.  If I know someone is going to rob me, I take all necessary precautions to prevent it.  They are crimes of opportunity built on ignorance or perceived ignorance.
I got one of them metal detectors.  I explored this place to see what was below the surface.  The sounder went off and I dug hoping to find gold and be rich beyond my wildest dreams.  I found a nail.  Believe me, nothing to look at here.  I’ve looked.
I haven’t even come across any ancient artifacts that are evidence of a bygone civilization.  I wonder if the land having been well and truly cleared before my arrival has anything to do with that?  I did find stones laid out around the house though.  Apparently that is evidence of late 21st century man.  They did that sort of thing.
I saw a question.  “What is below below?”  My response to that is “who cares.”  Below is deep enough for me.  Maybe if I were an archaeologist or looking for minerals it would matter, but I am not, so it doesn’t.  I reckon if the home were built on a known fault line below or a volcanic fissure, the plans would have revealed that.  Also I reckon the home would have not had its value if it was expected it could disappear at any moment. Surely insurance would have been harder to get.  I have never had the impression that it is like “we are so keen to give you money that the greater the risk the better.”
Below has been an interesting word.  It was, but I am over below.
