Beautiful Words

10/9/2021

“For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”  Sir Isaac Newton said that.  It occurred to me this morning that that could be slightly modified to be words. “For every word there is an equal and opposite word.”  It seems that for every word there is, there is an antonym.
I was thinking along those lines because in the English language there are to me many beautiful words.  Beauty itself is one of them.  Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but a beautiful scene seems to be universally acknowledged.
To me there are many other beautiful words.  My list of 100 or so would probably include words others do not and vice versa.  By beautiful words I am talking about those that conjure up positive images.
As said before there are word that are the opposite like destruction and decay but I was not going there.  I was considering words that evoke positive emotions.
To me love is one of them.  There can be love that misses the mark in that its focus is skewed. But the word love as I am considering it involves feelings but does not need feelings to be there.  It is a giving thing born of a desire for the best for another sometimes at the expense of the giver.
Freedom is another beautiful word to me.  It seems to be something everyone wants.  We know when we do not have it and can easily take it for granted when we do.  Another word I think is beautiful is closely related to it.  Liberty.  For me it implies acting in freedom.  Like dancing as though no -one is watching.  It is dancing not to achieve something but dancing because something has been achieved.
Then there is a word I consider one of the most beautiful in the English language.  Grace.  It is common in English.  Many rules and regulations contain a grace period.  A period of warning of consequences without the consequences.  Someone can dance gracefully.  I am watching a video at the moment that contains a ballet dancer.  I consider the movements graceful.
But the meaning of grace that means most to me is when someone lets another off the hook by paying the penalty themselves.  Undeserved favour.  It does not mean getting away with something and remaining unchanged.  To me it is like me owning someone $100,000 and I am in no position to pay.  My credit card is maxed out and I have no where to turn to pay what I owe.  Then someone pays the $100,000 for me.  I experience incredible relief and determine not to get myself into that position again.  But thankfully I know the one who paid the $100,000 grand so any bits I do owe they cover for me.
There are heaps of beautiful words I reckon.  To me they are identified by what they stand for and positive images they invoke.
