Beautiful, Useful, Joyful

Merry Christmas everyone, and may 2021 exceed your best expectations!
I was listening to a song called “Summer of Fletcher” and to me it embodied what Christmas is about.
The whole song is about someone else.  His mate called Fletcher.  I reckon Fletcher would have been walking on air when he heard the words. “How's he not married? This ain't no stretch, There's a reason why they call him Fletch the Catch.”
The whole song he is being made to feel good about himself.  Christmas and birthday’s seem to be a reminder to do this, but I can do it any time of the year.  I will never advocate making stuff up, but I find it way to easy to find fault, when perhaps with a little thought I can emphasise the good points.
It always amazes me how what I concentrate on grows bigger.  I have found the more good I find the more good I find.  I do not need to wait till Christmas or someone’s birthday to speak the best.  It is an “all year” round thing.
For me it can be really hard, but the best I think I can do, is love someone.  Changing someone is a bridge too far for me.  I will always hold to the point that parents should mould their kids, but for me, the best I can do with an adult stranger is let them know (in love without the accusative) what has worked for me.  I have never changed unless I wanted to.
But I reckon Christmas is a good reminder for me to bring out the best in others.  The commercialism may have gone too far, but the principle is good.  It’s a giving and receiving thing.  I know that presents are on the way.  Merril and I are very much into stuff that is beautiful, useful or joyful.
Yet even knowing stuff is coming, it is the expected look of surprise and joy on a receiver’s face that brings the most pleasure.  Hunting for gifts can be a drag, but the look of delight on Christmas morning makes it all worthwhile. (I have actually never seen the shopping centres so busy so early as this year).
Some people are really careful with the wrapping.  They peel the sticky tape away and fold the paper neatly.  I am not like that.  I rip the wrapping off.  I appreciate the wrapping (I know I always try to do it neat), but it is what is inside I am after.
I will constantly try to wrap a present neatly, but I always hope that what is inside is beautiful, useful or joyful for someone.
Have a great day.  I am going to give it my best shot.
