Balance

I had never thought of it like this but it does make sense to me. “"Money plays an important role in life, but it can't be the only filter for how you decide to spend your time. Nobody will ever pay you to go on a date with your spouse or take your kids to the park or grab coffee with your parents."
It was the no one pays me money to spend time with my wife or friends. (I omitted my parents as that would be just spooky as they are deceased.)
So much for me comes back to balance.  Earning a crust matters.  Setting up matters.  Though some seem to get things out of balance and neglect the family or friends to their detriment.
One thing I have discovered along the way is that others, while maybe sympathetic, will milk you for all your worth.  Particularly if their priorities are out of balance.   I think it was a training video but I remember seeing a boss say something needed to be done by Monday.  It was the first time the work had been presented, and it was Friday.  The recipient said to the boss ok you ring my wife and tell her we cannot go away for the weekend as we had planned.  The boss decided the matter was not so urgent.
It seems there are things in my life that have a different value to money, but their value is genuine, and if neglected, spells disaster for me in the long term.
Not only do I really want to be a well-rounded person. (I guess I am well rounded as you can tell if a man is on the level if his bubble is in the middle and mine is).  What is the point of developing one thing to the detriment of all else.  It would be like a weightlifter that worked only on his right arm.  It could be all rippling muscle while the rest of him is puny.
Me thinks it is better to develop the whole person.  Making one thing a priority is important but not so that the rest of me is a caricature of what it is supposed to be.
I reckon that is what I would become if I did not focus on the whole rather than a part.  I do not want to be unbalanced, and I continually need to guard against it.
