Balance & Wheel Alignment

Balance and Wheel Alignment
There is a song I have referenced quiet often by Peter Paul and Mary called “Turn, turn, turn.”   It is all about seasons and how to everything there is a season.
I am big on balance.  I have been for ages.  I guess it is trying to avoid obsession.  In my experience obsession leads to burn out.
I totally reckon it is right to be absorbed in something.  To be focused.  To allow something to command my attention.  But I do not think it is possible to be totally focused on one thing 24/7.  I’ve tried - but come a cropper.
This morning I was thinking about balance again.  Something may be right and the right thing for me to do, but it will destroy my perspective and relationships if I let it dominate excessively.  To me there is a time and a place for everything.  Not a time and a place for only one thing but a time and a place for a number of things.
In observing others, I do not seem to be alone in this.  Work is a classic.  Some seem to never stop working even when not working.  There are necessary things to be dealt with which can crop up any time but there are other things that come up I can choose to deal with now even though it does not need to be that way.
It was only something vague and in the back of my mind but it occurred to me I need to not confuse the good with the necessary.  There is a heap I can do that is good.  I could spend every minute of the day pursuing that, but I do not reckon for me it would be right.  While I am happy to do good along the way I can never let that get in the way of what is necessary for me.
There are things I can do that I feel I am supposed to do.  I cannot do everything.  No one person can.  But I can feel I can do what is necessary for me to do.
How do I pick them?  It is definitely a trial-and-error thing, but I am big on seeing the consequences of behaviour.  Perhaps I am on the wrong track if my relationships are being adversely affected.  Perhaps my health is suffering in a self-inflicted way.   Perhaps I am working harder and being less productive.  I have “been there done that” with all of them.
I read a sentence the other day I really liked.  It basically said there are things I thank God about, and other things I pray about. The author talks about seeing life with bi-focals.  One sees thankfulness and the other needs.   I like that because it basically acknowledges I cannot do everything.  I may want to and even try to, but I have found it just cannot be done.  I do not pretend there are no needs, but I also remember there is a lot to be thankful for.
I reckon there is balance there.  Even in the ordinary things of life.  The mundane.  The hard because I really do not feel like it, but it has to be done.  It is a faithfulness built on hope.  A faithfulness in not what I imagine I should do, but a faithfulness in doing what is mine to do.
