Bad Weather Not Penciled In

25/7/2023

We left Bowen and it was a beautiful morning.  We headed to Mackay and we could see on the BOM a line of rain between  us and our destination.  After Proserpine we hit it.  Boy was it bad weather.  Rain and strong winds.
The place we have stayed though has been beautiful.  It was a really nice place of refuge from the weather.  We did go out to get dinner but the streets were so quiet.  In fact the place we got dinner was closing early as there was no one around.   Everyone it seemed preferred to be bunkered down for the night.
We had not taken into account the ocean.  Our focus had very much been on the trip out west.  We actually loved it.  The coastal part is good but the focus for us is very much on enjoying what while heading for home.
We arrived at our place to stay and had one real downpour.  The rest of the time the weather has been very threatening, but the rain has largely held off.  Although it was really overcast we did go down to the beach area and took some photo’s.
The sugar cane people are doing it harder than they would like.  The unseasonal rain is delaying the harvesting of the cane so the mills are doing maintenance work until it dries out.
We did have lunch with someone unexpectedly here.  We thought it may happen around Rockhampton but it was up here.  Others we expected to see were not around.
So this morning we are taking it slow.  We want to leave this place and head to caves near Rockhampton.  Depending on how we get on we hope to visit the caves today.  We have booked a place overnight close by.
Yesterday was not so exciting apart from lunch with a friend, but that is the way we want it.  We feel we have done a lot of running around and would not mind it quieter towards the end of the holiday.
