Back into the Fray

Well it has come to the end.  We have been up here in the unit for about two weeks.  The last full day of our holiday was the nicest day.  All the rest was rain or threatening rain.
That did not matter to us really.  Early on we decided we do heaps of running about in our normal days, so this two weeks we were going to veg.  Do nothing.  Look meaningfully into the long distance.  It worked.  Merril just asked, “how’s the serenity.”
I did wonder though.  It seemed it could end up like so many times.  A guy was walking his dogs on sand banks that emerge at low tide.  Later I saw him lying down perfectly still.  I used my camera to magnify the view to see if he was ok.  Merril did the same.  He just was not moving.  Had he had a heart attack?  Did he need help?  Of course this was the one time there was no boat traffic at all.  Motorized or otherwise.
I decided I needed to go down and hail a passing craft that may have come along to go over and ascertain if he was ok.
Turned out he was.  The dogs licking his face caused him to move.  He was just getting a moments sunbaking.  I had made myself smell beautiful and everything.  My great efforts were not needed.  I am actually please they were not needed.  He and the dogs walked back to land and disappeared.
It would not have surprised me if Merril’s intervention had been needed.  It seems to happen on our holidays.
The last one we had in Townsville we went out to dinner and were sitting in a restaurant having ordered our meal.  I could see the bar area.  Merril had her back to it.  I watched a fella partially emerge from it and disappear.  Suddenly people were running.  Merril thought I was being very rude watching that area so intently until I told her someone had collapsed.
Merril leapt to her feet and went into nurse mode.  There was blood everywhere.  Not as bad as it looked though.  The guy was fitting and had bitten his lip.  Hence the blood.  An ambulance had been called.   While Merril was attending to him a doctor came into the restaurant carrying a baby in a sling.  He had come to order take away.  He saw what was going on and went up to Merril.  When he saw Merril had things under control he went back and sat waiting for his takeaway.  The fella was fine and taken away by the paramedics to the hospital and we got our meal at a discounted rate.
The last time we were here someone fell off their push bike near us as they rode along the footpath.  He did himself an injury.  Merril did her stuff.  An ambulance had been phoned.  For me that fabric shop was memorable for the wrong reasons.
Turned out nothing like that happened this time.  The guy on the sand was a false alarm.  I was ready to spring into action.  It does not matter I was a spring going off in one spot.  I did something.
Anyway Thursday is pack up day.  We will ask for this spot again next year.  It is a great place to come away to.  If we wanted any we do not need to go looking for drama’s.  They can come to us.
