Merril is away.  But I’m ok.  I just thought I would write for a minute before I went back down the front and howled.  I don’t know why I am listening intently to every car that goes by.  That’s new.
But there is a reason why I know I will be ok.  I have gone into survival mode.  Lots of stuff around the house goes into standby mode.  I go into survival mode.
I figure there are a few essentials.  Water, food, sleep, shelter.
The sleep has not been as easy as I thought.  Merril bought a new doona cover.  It is a jungle scene with heaps of leopards on it.  How am I supposed to sleep knowing those leopards could get me?!!  Having the covers pulled up under my chin is not helping me to stay awake.  Try as I may, sleep prevails eventually.  So far so good though.  Trouble is, I am not confident pulling the covers over my head at the first sign of movement would help.  I reckon they would know someone was close.
Food is not being the problem it could have been.  The pantry and freezer have come in real handy.  Like for lunch today I looked in the pantry and behold my eyes fell upon noodles.  Actually, that is probably a bit fancy.  I saw some noodles. But (and here’s the rub – whatever that means, but others have said it so I thought I would put it in there) as I was reaching for the noodles, I saw some tinned spaghetti.  I decided to have that on toast while watching tv.
All that activity though made me want to sleep.  I would like to say I resisted but I did not.
Shelter we worked out before Merril left.  We decided this would be my home base with this being my home and all.  Made sense to me.  I don’t know that I need to visit each room like a guard.  It is not like I do it every half hour though.  Every hour is much more manageable.
The written report may not be necessary.  Columns headed room, items, location, changes, and notes and rows divided between each hour of the day might be seen as me having too much time on my hands.  The crossing out on the page was something I realized I didn’t need to report.  The movement of the plate in the kitchen was me when I had something to eat.  Anyway I can work out these things as I go along.
Water is not a problem.  Taps do the trick.  We have a number of those strategically located around the home.  I am never too far from water.  I have not had to shoo the birds from their bird bath yet.  Live and let live I say, but if it becomes survival of the fittest, I reckon I’m well placed.
Anyway, better go.  The front verge is calling but as can be seen I’m ok.
