Awake While Sleeping

I am in the habit of reading one thing then thinking “what’s next?” when I am close to finishing.  I have been reading stuff I really love.  I know some of the things I read will impact me for a lifetime.
It is one of the reasons I love having the lending library here.  I have spent the last week going through what is here.  I know I need to be careful to have a balanced catalogue and not just keep things that interest me.  People leave books and it is up to me what I decide to keep for the lending library and what to give away.
I know I have talked about it before but having been given the book it makes me think I should start a section on “dreams.”  The book I have started reading is “Windows of the Soul.”  All about dreams and their meanings.
It probably seems the weirdest thing as I rarely remember my dreams.  Yet it is something I feel I can interpret.  It was not something sought but just seemed to happen.  It is one of the reasons I find this topic interesting.
The book was written by a psychiatrist and a clergyman.  Both have M.D. after their names but I was interested to see that I was not alone in feeling often dreams have meanings.  Not all.  I do not think even most.  But some.  They are the ones I am interested in following through on.
I have only just started the book, but something has been said I find really liberating.  One guy said that finding meaning had been a real issue for him.  He had put his mind to such things big time.  He indicated that the turn around happened when he saw that interpretations tend to well up from the inside rather than come as a result of exercising heavy lifting of the mind.
I really like that as it somehow it takes the pressure off.  If I get it great.  If I don’t then great too.  Sometimes I will have something to add and sometimes not.
I have no idea of the validity of this, but I don’t reckon I will have anything to say that has not been something totally foreign to the hearer.  What I say should be a confirmation only rather than some new wild thought.   If I were on the receiving end of such a thing,  I would put it on the back burner rather than act on it.
It is weird but it is something I have learnt only with age.  Rather than dismiss something outright just put some things to one side.  There may come a time when it is the right thing for me.  More than once I have acted like something was never right only to discover down the track that it was not right for that time but further on it was right.
This is something I am learning.  Learning is trial and error.   I do not like the errors, but they are a part of the process.  It is the goal that matters.
