Authority

I heard about Authority recently and I so liked what I heard.  It got me thinking again about Health & Safety. 
Many feel our Health & Safety laws are over the top. In many ways I agree.  For example we now have a spa.  One thing we had to do was put a fence around it.  It did not matter that the spa was in a locked shed.  It had to have a fence.  Although I may not like our laws, I really feel to comply, even if I agree or not.  When something is not liked, I need to go through proper processes to perhaps achieve change.
To me complaining about something achieves little.  I may feel better, and if the person listening does something, that can be good.  However to complain and do nothing is pointless to me.  What do they say “misery loves company”
To try and be sneaky may only be gotten away with for so long.  Maybe I will get away with it.  Maybe I won’t.  To me, it is a chance not worth taking.
I think we can be thankful how things are in this country. It seems something can be done.  In other places, decrees come from the top that are counter-productive to the common good, but are good for the decreer.
I heard recently about a soldier in authority and doing the wrong thing, who led 250 men to their deaths.  That is really hard.  The choice we have is to obey or not.  We can usurp authority or not.  The choice is ours.  I am not responsible for the outcome, I am responsible for what I do.  Of course that is easy for me to say.  I am not perfect, and I have blind spots.  All I can be is open and honest and giving it my best shot.
Health & Safety is big where Merril works.  It is really in many cases life and death.  Something Merril said stuck in my mind big time.  She said that if two people stand before a judge, and one is the one who suffered and is in a wheel chair, or burned or something, and the other is the person or the organization they represent, the first thing the judge will want to know is if the person or organisation they represent has complied.  If they have not, they will not have a leg to stand on.  If they have, then digging deeper is needed.  In other words human nature is to help the one wronged.
Our Health and Safety rules may be over the top but I sure prefer that to them being inadequate. ​
