My Mission should I choose to accept

I read something recently that got me thinking.  It was about mandate and mission.  So often the mission statement is seen as all important.  Yet it is the mandate that must be met before the mission statement is pursued.
In a business sense my mission statement may be to own a shop and produce 500k of burgers in a year.  Yet it is the mandate that determines if it is a goer.  I need to act in a certain way to have any chance of succeeding.  I must respect the customers and teach staff to do the same.  I must produce a product that is considered value for money and I must be willing to put in the time to see it happen.
Having a mission statement to produce 500k of burgers in a year is a waste of time and will never happen if I fail to act in a certain way.  People vote with their feet and compromising on essentials is a sure road to failure.
Before Merril and I were married we got food from a place and I would never get food from them again.  (that is radical as I generally give something a second go down the track) The food was cool (it was supposed to be hot) and did not even look the same as we ordered.  Whatever their mission statement was they had set themselves up for failure.
(Just as an aside when I get food, I ask myself would I prepare this for me.  Generally people are pleasantly surprised and come back when expectations are met or exceeded.)
This mandate thing is a biggy for me.  It sort of goes with something else I read about concretizing a mission.  That is ,we tend to be really good at saying what we would like but not as good visualizing or putting into place the steps necessary to get there.
It is one thing to get all excited about doing something and another to map out how it is to be achieved.
Anyway these are the things I am considering.  I do ask myself why as I am getting long in the tooth, but I guess it is all because it is my bent.
