Attitude

They say, “attitude is everything.”  In my mind everything is a lot, but attitude to me is a great indicator of openness or not.
There are few things sadder to me than a “know it all” attitude.  To me much is a case of wide-eyed wonder.
I know there are things learned along the way which I reckon it is healthy to be closed about.  Water scolds.  Fire burns.  Don’t put a knife into electricity sockets or the toaster.  I do not want to relearn these things, and for some things there is only one chance.
But there is heaps I don’t know.  Heaps of good stuff.  Enough to keep me interested for a life time.  I really am fond of saying, “interest governs memory.”  If I am closed to ideas, I am the one that misses out when things are shared.
Even if there are things I will never pursue, I find it is in my interests to listen carefully.  Who knows, maybe down the track that may be the area I pursue myself.  I am a big one for not “reinventing the wheel.”
In the past I would purchase unknown artists deliberately all on the while avoided the big names.  I know it was right for me at the time.  My thinking was everyone has something to say.  I wanted to hear what was being said by unknown artists, and felt that even if it was only one song I found appealing, it was worth it.
Little did I know that these days I am listening a lot to the big time artists.  They have something to say too.  Commercial success does not mean worthless.  Just like commercial success does not mean worthwhile.
I am open to both now, where I was closed to one originally.  It may be all a matter of timing, but for me it is a matter of not writing off what I may not be into.  I can learn - if I am interested.  Even when something is not my thing at the time, I can learn heaps.  It may never be used.  It may be used down the track.  Whatever the case, I know I gain a friend and potentially usable knowledge.
