At the Ready

Man oh man, the more I see the more I reckon I have it good.  Merril and I watched “The World” on the ABC last night and her comment was “so many tragedies.”  I could only agree.  One after the other events were listed.  Turkey, New Zealand, Brazil, events close to home.
It makes me realize no matter how diligently I pursue things (and I totally think I should and must) things can change in a second and the world be very different to the one I know.   We are very close to the one-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine.  I remember someone from the Ukraine saying one night we went to watch the football and the next day we were at war.
Somehow the world does seem a more dangerous place.  The word I hear from victims all the time is hope.  It seems no matter how dire things are there is a clinging to hope.  Once upon a time it seemed to be ages between misadventures.  Now it seems to me so much is piling up on top of one another.  Breaks are breathing space rather than a resolution.
The thing for me is to continue doing what I think is right for me to do.  If Turkey, New Zealand or Brazil are anything to go by, it could end up that just surviving is what I want to do.  The report on Brazil told how reveler's participated in the return of Carnival after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic and went home to devastation or maybe did not have a home at all.
It is important to me that I do not expect the worst, but that I am ready for the worst should it happen.   It is pretty bad being caught short when buying something.  It may cost $100 and I have $90.  It does not matter how close I am, I cannot get it.  I may as well have nothing in that case.  I cannot obtain what I am after.
It is only when I have $100 I can get what I am after.  Only if I am ready for what may happen can I get what I am after.
