As Long As I Know

What I posted yesterday led to me thinking about what I am posting today.
As most know I had experience heading up an organization.  To me it is pretty silly to pick up nothing on the way.  A lot of times it is getting it wrong before getting it right.  People can give valuable hints as to their experience, and there is a lot of good stuff that has been gleaned by others along the way, but one thing I know is I am the one in the ring.  I will use strategies and ways, but when the bell sounds I am on my own.
This whole unity thing got me thinking about something I found along the way.  Most people will follow if they know.  In this organization I had a weekly newsletter.  In it I outlined all our deliberations and what was coming up.
Unity to me is all about agreeing on a common goal.  It is not necessarily agreeing how it is to be achieved, but we all want to achieve the same thing.
To me it is really important everyone feels they can contribute.  That they are valued.  That their opinion matters.  I was always of the opinion that there were mostly better ways of doing things if I was willing to listen.
That did not mean I followed every direction of another, but I sure considered every opinion of another.  Sometimes ideas were used and sometimes they were not.
One thing I found really important was to not do some things even if I thought it a great idea.  When a great idea was presented, I would indicate my full support but if it was to happen, they were to do it.  To me the quickest way to burn out is to try to do everything.  I would provide direction, but it was hands off.  To me few things disincentivise like another taking over and not letting me do what is mine.
Everyone knowing did not guarantee unity but it disabled rumours.  Merril and I watched a program last night about two kids that were heirs to the throne back in the 15th century.  Someone usurped the throne, and no one knows what happened to the kids.  Unfortunately the not knowing enabled enemies to propagate rumours.  Not knowing produced divisions and the king was killed when some of his own turned on him.
It seems to me most do not care what I do as long as they see that I am working on their behalf. And including them on the journey.  Most it seems are just glad someone is willing to do it.
