Anglo-Indian

Boy do I feel stretched by this one.  I had Merril randomly pick the word out of the dictionary.  Her finger fell on “Anglo-Indian.”
The trouble is (I can think of more than one) the more I looked into it, the more confusing it became.
The Oxford Australian concise dictionary says, “person of British birth living or having lived long in India; person of mixed British and Indian parentage.” The Oxford English Dictionary though lists three groups.  Wikipedia lists two and says the definition citing living or having lived long in India is mainly historical.
I’ll take their word for it.  Apparently the 2nd of August is World Anglo Indian day.  I must admit for 63 that was celebrated without me.  I can make amends now but there is a good chance I will forget.
I have befriended a number of Indians now living in Australia.  I also know a number of people who have visited India.  They loved it.  I am not one who has been there.  But I do not know any Anglo-Indians.  So my experience is limited.  That is if non-existent can be termed limited.
Merril and I were wrapped when an Indian couple and son turned up at our New Years eve celebration.  He is of Hindu priesthood linage.  All I know is they are lovely people.  They brought some of their food which was yummy.
They reinforce to me something I find true.  Being a particular ethnicity does not make someone good or bad.  To me that is a matter of the heart spread across all people groups.
When I was at QUT we employed an Indian student.  He knew stuff and wanted to know more stuff.  Merril and I went to their Saturday on campus celebration of India.
But I digress.  I’m finding that really easy to do.  I could quote some historical stuff I learned while looking all this up.  For example, I never knew it but there is an All India Anglo-Indian Association founded in 1926.  Contrary to what may be popular belief, I was not around when it was formed, but it continues to this day.  Apparently.
Another fact I found out that I found interesting was that Anglo-Indians tend to identify with India rather than specific areas of India.
Hmmm 348 words.  I am clutching at straws here.  That can change though if I think of things to add to what has already been said.
I did just add stuff and it is now at 407 words but who’s counting.  I always write 400 or more words and less than 599.  Ok this is at the lower end of the scale, but I can live with that.
Anglo-Indian I have found hard.  Some stuff I can just write about as I learn things but this one called for some experience of which I have none.  Still, I found it interesting and learned stuff along the way.
