Alive

I said to Merril I did not know what to write about today.  She suggested while she was ironing, “being alive.” 
I do not know how serious she was, but I thought “yeah, I can write about that.  That is my experience.”  In fact, I reckon it is the experience of anyone who may stumble upon these words.  It seems to be fairly universal this being alive thing.  Everyone I interact with is that way.
I like there are only two options.  I am either alive or otherwise.  I know being alive has various states and some are more desirable than others.   But there is only one alternative.  Though I know I need to be careful.  Everyone who ate Wheaties in 1827 died.  Can’t be good for me.
But limited alternatives I feel I handle best.  When there are heaps of options I can be at a loss.  As the ad said, “I just want milk that tastes like real milk.”  Limited options makes decision making easier for me.
I am also glad to be alive here.  There are places in the world where being alive is more of a lottery.  Although as we are seeing random things can make a huge difference.  But on the whole, this is a good place.  As an old doctor I had said, “if you were a bug why wouldn’t you live here?”  Nice place.  Good question really.  Much of the world does not have it so good.
I think the birds around here are glad we are alive.  Not just the birds really.  I showed Merril last night we had a possum with its baby on its back in our big tree.  Ok it looked cute.  A cutup apple soon appeared.  It won’t eat in front of us, but the apple is gone this morning.
It is not only us that is glad we are alive.  There are others to.  Though I must say getting older and retiring is overrated.  It is great, but the onset of health issues with older age can be an issue.  Merril had sore muscles yesterday and it highlighted to me that I have found wrong moves seem to have consequences more often.
But I am happy.  Merril is happy.  The alternative to being alive does not hold fear but I enjoy this while I can.
