Aim Higher

The Ibis’s were wandering through the water picking tasty morsels as they went.  They like to spend most of the day doing that.  Wandering back and forth.  It seems they never run out.  What is missed this time, is gotten next time.
We had just returned from our regular wander to the shop.  I was sitting out the back writing reading and thinking.  Seeing the Ibis’s I wondered where the Curlews were.  I was not surprised that I could not see them, as they blend in so well with the leaf litter.
Then it occurred to me.  If you want to find the curlews look around the Ibis’s.  That made so much sense to me as it ties in with what I have heard in the past.  If you want to be successful, hang around a successful person.
I reckon I do not need to be a rocket scientist to see the sense in that.  I just need to see the truth of the opposite.  There seems to be little that pulls down like someone toxic to me.
It is like the law of the lowest common denominator.  Aiming low may be easier but it is guaranteed not to satisfy like aiming high.  Aiming high may take a few attempts but the view alone is worth it.
We did some cleaning.  I used muscles I have not used in a while.  I was tired.  We went for a walk.  The walk home was leisurely.  I did not mind but it occurred to me there was little gain without stretching.  It seems to me there is little growth in comfort.
Swamps and lowlands are inhabited by what is content to not aim high.  Mountains are inhabited by eagles and mountain goats and what is willing to defy the danger of the journey.  The cost may be higher, but so is the reward.
I never cease to be amazed at the positive effects of a run.  Most times it is not something I look forward to but invariably I am glad I did it when it is done.  A clear head and a stretching helps with aiming higher.
If I do not want to be plagued by “what if’s” I must be discontent with the lowlands and aim higher.  It is no good looking longingly at distant peaks.  It is definitely more satisfying to view from distant peaks.
So much is aspiration and inspiration but I know I need both.
