Age and Love

Things that I hear or read sometimes grab my attention.  I read something in a book by a lady I have never heard of and it got my attention as it combined two of my passions. Jeanne Moreau “Age does not protect you from love.  But love, to some extent, protects you from age.”
I think in these writings I have written most extensively on love and age.
I am a real advocate for the elderly as I reckon, in a lot of ways, they get a raw deal.  This age tends to discard them as past their use by dates, and to some extent it is believed.  Yet to me the elderly have heaps to give and contribute.  For sure it is in a slower way, and they are, in most cases, not good for physical work.  Yet there is still much to be gained by listening to, and acting on the words of many.  Experience can be a great teacher and worth listening to.
I have heard it a couple of times where I have been told “it matters not if what I suggest is done as long as I am heard.”  Listening to me is a respect thing.  I am not the font of all knowledge, and so often a way to go is a combination of various ideas.
When it comes to love I am a big advocate.  Love to me is more than a mushy feeling.  Often it is really hard.  Sometimes giving in is much easier, but more destructive.  A course of action sometimes looks like the opposite of love.  Sometimes staying strong is misunderstood.
I am big on loving certain activities, but it is loving a person that I find the most interesting.  It is commonly quoted that iron sharpens iron.  That is, two people rub against each other.  When iron strikes iron there are inevitably sparks.
Sparkes may be inevitable, but the outcome is not.  Some just walk away and declare it is not worth it, while others stick it out and embrace changes that are necessary in growth.
The thing to me is this is not just a young person’s phenomena, but it is the lot of anyone who wants to grow as a person.  And the good thing to me is it is not just a personal growth thing but a love growth thing – no matter a person’s age.
