Ads

I finally saw it again.
It is incredibly rare that I want to see an ad a second time.  Not that I have much choice if I am watching tv.  There are plenty of ads which I feel I could easily do without.  But occasionally there is an ad that combines humour with salesmanship.  I don’t mind sitting through them.
There are a couple of companies I think give it their best shot and sometimes really have me wanting to see their ads again.
Aldi I think have some good ads.  One a while ago advertised salmon and had a shark circling and the guy say “go on get out of here” and I thought the ad showing it raining in the shop and attendant saying to a lady you really want that (what ever it was), go get it.” Then he told the customer that “we love you,” and told him “you will always be my first……shop”
Budget Direct are another one I think try to be humorous.  There was one that sent up an Alien movie where a guy and his wife were encased in some sticky stuff.  He had changed his policy because it was like “titanium.”  We often joke about something being special as it is titanium.
They are on a winner with their dog.  To me, he rose to prominence when he was wielding a sabre sword in his mouth and  cut a piano in half and brought down a telephone pole.  Their “Captain Risky” marketing campaign got my attention too using a daredevil character.  There were ever “Captain Risky” dolls people could get.
But the ad I wanted to see again was one by speck savers.  It features an orchestra playing a beautiful piece of music and shows the drummer with the big round drums and sticks that soften the sound.  He had one note to play.  Finally, it reaches where he is supposed to dramatically hit the drums.  Unfortunately, he hit the bald heads of the trumpeters in front and they hit awful sounding notes and everyone stopped.  That is when it says, “should have gone to spec savers.”
I am not fond of ads but some get my attention.  In fact, I looked up the Speck savers web site for their ads.  I thought their Virgel and Earl cowboy ad was a classic.
That to me means it was a successful advertising campaign.
