Sometimes I wonder about me.  I am sure others do to but it is what I have been considering that makes me wonder.  So often I am thinking strategy and considering the best way to do something.  By best it is often the easiest way I am thinking about.
My thought yesterday was “an enemy does not give up territory easily.”  Obviously the current war I know about comes to mind.  But I just know in table tennis, if I had a win (and it did happen) I knew to enjoy it because the next time I faced that opponent they would be very much out to get me.  Even the Bronco’s beating Penrith is to me something to be enjoyed because Penrith will be very determined to reverse the result next time.
I knew a former captain in the army and he talked of what was common amongst Australian troops in I think it was world war one.  It was called “active patrolling.”  By that they meant they considered no mans land as theirs.  So for them the front line of their influence was not their forward most trench, but the area up to the enemies forward most trench.
For me that is a good way to look at the world.  I have a personal war I am involved in.  I have won some battles, but I know the war is not yet won.  Yet for each battle won, the territory goes beyond where I am, to an area forward of that where I am wanting to head.
One of the reasons I like that is because it helps keep me focused.  I am not inclined to think I have arrived.  Where I am is not where I want to be.  I remain unwilling to cede territory to an enemy.  What I am taking is rightfully mine and I am uninclined to give in or give up until I have it back.
Naturally I need to believe in the cause I am fighting for.  Doubts are a breech.  For me doubts are not to be feared or ignored.  They are to be confronted and dealt with.  With the right attention, doubts can become strong points.  Ignored they become an avenue for an enemy.
My wars are not against other people but against motivations within and without.  What happens to an enemy when I win is not my call.  That is a decision that belongs further up the command chain.
My job as perhaps soldier 46,371 is to obey commands and fight within the rules of engagement to win.
Goodness knows why my thinking ends up a war picture, but I think “an enemy does not give up territory easily” lends itself to that.
