Achievable

As most all know I get a weekly email from a guy called James Clear.  I always have a read it as there are many gems.  I consider todays email no exception.
"10 years or 1 hour. Those are the two time frames worth prioritizing.
10 years is shorthand for thinking longer-term than nearly everyone else and doing things that are really ambitious or meaningful. Most of the deeply meaningful things in life require long time horizons: building a business, cultivating a happy marriage, growing a family, getting in the best shape of your life, etc.
How do you work toward the 10-year things? In 1 hour increments. 1 hour is shorthand for doing things that can be accomplished from start to finish in a single session like a good workout, a good writing session, reading a chapter of a book, going on a fun date, etc. The key is that you finish with something accomplished, not with half-work still waiting to be completed….”
As far as the longer term thing goes I am into not just starting well but finishing well.  I think it has been a bit of a family trait to start well and pull it all down.  I reckon the mold is there to be broken. And I will do it.
I really like him saying “10 years is shorthand for … doing things that are … meaningful.  My thinking is, I chose what that is and go for it.
Admittedly sometimes the longer term things include doing stuff I may not consider fun - but necessary.  I used to set myself up for a fall.  By that I mean I would try to do a heap and come a cropper.  Now I succeed in smaller things that are a part of a bigger thing rather than trying to do the bigger thing all at once and ending up doing nothing because it was all too hard.  I have been a much more content camper setting and achieving smaller goals which are a part of the bigger goal.
As for the one hour thing, I vary a little from what he says but the principle is the same.
I love lists.  Lists help me to remember what needs doing.  It may be a future thing I remember but once recorded I am unlikely to suddenly remember it needs to be done.  Unrecorded it may come up at an inopportune time.
Apart from that, another reason I really like lists is I love crossing things off as done. At times I have added a just remembered but already achieved task to a list, just to cross it off.
I am all for achievable goals.  Even if the big picture is guaranteed to take 10 years or more.  I can achieve anything when it is in bite size pieces.  I know I love the feeling of a win.
