Accountability

Accountability
Sometimes things come at me totally unexpectedly.
I have been doing a zoom course that was out of Melbourne.  It went for 10 weeks and is over now.  There were 14 of us.  I found it really interesting and the longer it went the more I enjoyed it.  It was great to hear from people about their life journeys and struggles they had had or were having an from others who had faced the same things and provided what worked for them.
I said things and listened and thought no more about it.  A few days ago I got an email from someone asking if I would be their “Accountability Partner.”  I really did not know much about such things and what I did know was negative.
My experience related back several decades to a time when accountability seemed to be more about dominance.  I had no intention of going there.  I have since done some research on it and asked someone I trust about it.
It seems these days they have a lot going for them.  They can fail where one refuses to be honest or if there is not compatibility.  Sometimes people it seems just do not gell.  The person who contacted me is my age and married and is looking at doing similar things I would like to do.
In my research I read about someone who had had a Youtube channel for ages and been posting heaps.  They were ready to give it away.  I love one of their sentences “Imposter syndrome had totally weighed me down.”  The reason I like that sentence has nothing to do with this, but I know sometimes what I aspire to be and what I am are two very different things. But the only way to answer the question “are we there yet” is to keep travelling in the right direction.  What I am is not what I will be.
There were a few benefits I read about and thought “that’s gotta be a good thing.” Apparently they can help me stay on track and focused on my goals.  I want that.  There are so many distractions.  I want to avoid the ones that are not for me and take me away from what I want to achieve.  They can also help me grow.  I really want that.  I do not want to be in decline but to keep growing till the day I die.  A biggy for me is they can provide support in difficult times.
I am so into I am not in this alone.  I need others and they need me.  Sometimes it can be the simplest word said to someone that is life changing.  Sometimes nothing significant is said but it is just knowing someone cares.  Life gets tough.  A shoulder to lean on helps.
Sometimes another is a good sounding board for my ideas. Sometimes what can seem like a goer to me can be flawed and it takes someone else to see it.  I am fond of saying if I could see my blind spots they would not be blind spots.  But I have them.  At other times my idea is improved upon because it has been shared.  I really do not care what is my idea I just want it to be the best it can be.
So here I am about to embark on an adventure.  Maybe it will go well and maybe it will not.  But I do know it will not if I do not try.
