I can’t accept everything that comes my way.  There is a religion that seems to think that.  I have a cold, it must be from God.  My marriage is falling apart.  It must be from God.
For me, there is a huge difference between what is from, and what is allowed.  I believe that things that come my way are for my ultimate good, but some things I need to resist and fight and get rid of.
If I get a cold, I fight it.  I take medicine and rest and do what I need to do to make it a thing of the past.  If some injustice is perpetrated and I feel it is my role to be involved, then I will resist it.  When friends are hard done by, I will go into bat for them and help them resist what may be the challenge (with their permission).
To me, accepting everything that comes my way is like rolling over and playing dead.  Judging by what I’ve seen when fighting spiders do that, it is not a good thing to do.  Spiders are notorious for playing dead.  That must work in some circumstances for them, but it doesn’t if their fight is with me.  Outside I leave them alone.  Inside they are fair game.  Their playing dead gives me a chance to get a thick book to drop on them or some other implement that will lead to their demise.  Soon they are not playing dead, but are dead for real.
I think the same with an Ostrich burying it’s head in the sand.  Just because I cannot see it, does not mean it is not there.  Or as someone said, “just because you are paranoid, does not mean no one is after you.”
Exercise is all about resistance. I get better when I reach a limit and go though it.  If I just accepted things, I would never get better.  As unpleasant as it is, things that need to be fought or resisted, make me stronger.  It probably all comes back to the song I am fond of that says “every man has his beliefs, his own point of view, on everything from big to small.  Some of them we must defend with everything we’ve got, some of them don’t matter much at all.”
I don’t think I agree with the words of the song “Que Sera, sera” when it says “what will be will be.”    If I let it “what will be will be.”  When receiving a gift, I cannot control what is offered, but I can choose to accept.
I mostly cruise, but some things matter, and it is up to me to either accept or reject them.
