Acceptance

We have a friend we met in chat years ago.  She seems and may well be a mild-mannered lady.  I have never forgotten that she said she had just been to a Red concert and really enjoyed it.
In itself that is not surprising but I knew the group has a bit of scream rock.  I had shied away from them, but I thought I should give them a listen as something occurred to me this morning.
There are many different ways of saying the same thing.  I may not be into the means of communication used, but that does not invalidate what is being said.  Just because something is not my style, does not negate the message.
I like a bit of rock and roll for sure.  Head banging stuff.  Sometimes.  Not all the time.  But I have never really taken to scream rock.  Even having listened to them it is not something I would put on most times, but I thought I should hear what there are saying.
I did like the message.  It is a bit of a hobby of mine to review an album even if it is not a medium of music I would normally listen to.  I try to be objective.  Ratings are based on many things including the quality.  Hopefully it does not matter if something is done well or badly, I can pick it and rate it accordingly.  That is my hope.  There are definitely albums in the medium I enjoy that I do not rate highly.  The same is true of albums in a medium I do not enjoy.
The album of Red’s I had a good listen to was “Until We Have Faces.”  It was full of the angst I would expect.  But I must admit the more I listened to it the more I liked it.  I really had to get past my prejudices.  It really struck me that this was rubber meets the road stuff.  I am sure this would be the type of music some listen to by choice.  It was great to hear a positive message amidst all the negativity.   
In reading about the guys that formed and make up the heart of the band, I was amazed to learn of their interest in classical music.  I could definitely hear it in some of the songs.  I guess that should not surprise me as another of my favourite artists lists their likes as some of the classical composers.
The words were more cryptic then I am used to, but when they rock they really rock.   Even simple chord progressions are heavy electric guitars.  They are probably best played loud.   
The thing that has stood out to me most in this whole experience is I am good at saying I am accepting but listening to this was a “prove it” thing.  I reckon I would enjoy attending one of their concerts too.
