A Walk

2/5/2019

I went for a walk this morning.  Ok that may not be noteworthy for you, but it is for me.
Merril was doing stuff and she will always take me, but I thought why not walk up the road yourself.  I mean, mostly I think, so much is close and I think “why walk when I can drive?”  I do a bit of that, and it probably explains my gut.
Anyway, this time I needed to go to the shops and they are very much within walking distance.  A good bit of it is park land too.  It is a nice day.  That is always the case in Burpengary isn’t it?  The birds are singing, the sky is blue and it only rains at night doesn’t it?
Still, going for a walk is a big deal for me.  I gotta be dressed right.  But men are not as fussy as women.  It did not mean three changes of outfit before I went.  Oh and a shower.  Oh, and doing my hair.  I mean, I did my hair once and I reckon it is over rated.  I just make sure my part is in the middle and head out.
However, a person needs to look right.  As the song says, I needed to concentrate on trucken right.  It is a lot easier to look the part now, than it once was.  I needed music.  Thankfully we are subscribed to Spotify and I have a play list on my phone.  I got earphones which are paired to the phone.  I could be cool.
The hat would not cut it though, because the earphones would not go over the rim.  I settled on a cap.  I could wear the cap and the ear phones.
I needed to make sure I was all set up before I went.  I paired the ear phones to the phone.  I heard the music really softly on the phone.  I knew there was a problem.  Turned out I had not done the pairing right and the music was playing through the phone speaker only.  I rectified that and was all set for my walk.  (The writing about it probably takes as long as the event, but what the heck.)
There were words I heard that really rang in my ears literally – there was no bell, but the words were like music to my ears.  One lot was by a group called Downhere which said “don’t let me get the better of me.”  I really like that.  I can be my own worst enemy.  The other was from Mylon Le Fevre and Broken Heart and said “breaking away from horizontal hold.”  I like the imagery of that.  Gravity does a good job.  Something else I heard that I like was Switchfoot singing “standing on the edge of everything I’ve never been before.”
My walk was really quite uneventful.  I did get sore legs and that surprised me.  I play table tennis and although the younger ones do things that seem impossible, I have fairly good staying power.  I guess I am only really fit for purpose.
I enjoyed it though.  Today is my day off.  I did what I needed to, then went for the walk.  No pressure.
