A Quiet Day

24/6/2019

This doing nothing thing can be really hard work.  In fact, I often need a rest after it.  Yesterday was a do-nothing day.  A veg day.  But I worked, had a rest and worked again.  I just need to admit it.  There are some things I am just not good at.
Vegging is normally not one of them.  I reckon if it was an Olympic sport I’d be somewhere on the podium and thank my wife and mum and dad and all the supporters in interviews.
I could be on Australian story.  Show pictures of me as a little boy and talk to people that have known me over the years.  Then again, maybe that would not be such a good idea.
Merril did stuff around the house.  Every now and then I put in an appearance.  I do wonder though if it was guilt driving me.  I went back and sat down but I saw stuff that needed doing.  A plant had died and we had a plant for planting.  Seemed like a natural fit to me.  Besides it came from a pot that was one of two.  Those pots would look good supporting the lanterns.  So I re-potted a plant and used the pots to support the lanterns.  I sat down again, but still Merril worked.  How’s a man to get any peace with someone working nearby?
So I did house stuff.  Cleaned, dusted, looked busy.  Surely that is enough?  I sat down again.  My eyes were getting heavy.  Thankfully Merril’s were too.  We both had a rest.  Now that is more like it.
It seemed like no time at all then up and atom!  Merril worked again.  Her mopping made it really hard for me to get to the coffee, but where there is a will there is a way.  I was determined.  We both had a coffee.
Nothing should be made of my eyes looking like two fried eggs after the coffee.  Surely it is only natural for me to want to do something.  And do it now.  And do it in a hurry.
The car port needed blowing out.  I had sensed that earlier when I passed through it on my way to sit down, and was met by dirt and grim and dust that confronted me.  I don’t mind being confronted like that, but another time would have been better.  I would have been happy to make an appointment.  Say 5 on Friday?  5 on Friday I am generally doing something else, but for now the problem would have been gone.
So I blew out the car port.  As is often the case with me one thing led to another and our car port looks the best it has in years.
We had people over that night.  I vegged between making sure everyone had what they needed.  After they went, I did not loiter.  Bed was calling.  At last I could veg proper like.
