A Day's Work

This may come as a shock, but I am not as young as I used to be.
Yesterday was a full-on day.  For a start I mowed.  I’m a zoom, zoom sort of guy.  The trouble for me was the grass was longer than I am used to.  I started when I was allowed to by law, but in reality it was too early.  The grass was still moist.  The grass catcher did not have a lot to show for my effort, but the lawn did, judging by the clumps left behind.
I had two batteries for the mower.  Both ran out of juice before I had finished a section I really wanted to see complete.  Fortunately, there was another mower on hand.  I used it though it was nearly empty.  Did the trick, but there was still stuff I wanted to come back to as it did not look the way I wanted it to.  I did that later.
I then did the front before I blower vaced.  After that it was cutting back on my hands and knees.  That produced a lot of rubbish so I raked it up and cut it while I put it in the bin.  It is amazing how much can go in a bin when it is cut down.  One bin at another place is always full because a business does not break down boxes and they take a heap of room.
I then had shopping to do.  It was no real drama except I was doing it for someone else.  There was a list and all, but I feel more pressure in circumstances like that, as I want to get the right things.  I know that with our shopping there as certain places in aisles we are used to, and we go there.  Merril gets our groceries mostly though.  I tend not to go.  Women tend to linger while I am a straight in and straight out person.  They sort of don’t work together.
After that it was a short break and off to the doctors.  As is common. there was a race to get there on time, then ages sitting.  I was about to ask was there an appointment when the call came.  Merril had made an appointment elsewhere for that date.  She had to tell them she could not make it as a crisis arose she needed to attend to.  When she rang to cancel, she was advised she was not on the books.
Merril and I had a queen-sized bed we were giving away.  I attached the trailer to the car.  Merril wanted to clean the trailer.  Never has a trailer looked so neat.  The bed was too big for the trailer, so we put it on in layers with coverings in case it rained.  It rained.  Our appointment was for six pm but when we sent a text saying we were ready, they were too.  What we only found out when we got there, was there were major road woks happening where the bed was being delivered.  (major to the point where there were people directing traffic with a “stop” and “slow” sign).  We parked up on the verge.  The unit was the last and could not have been further away.
Seeing I had not had breakfast, I thought at three pm it was time I ate.
All in a day’s work for most, but a day’s work for me seems to be less than what it was.  I felt it then, and I am feeling it now.
