A Day Better

I was watching an interview with the coach of the Matilda’s.  He said some things I really like and I wanted to write them down while they were fresh in my mind.  Some things I may not even get to, as I want to start with what meant most to me.
In fact there was a bit in this.  It felt like a huge thought bubble.  Too big for the confines of one writing here.  So I have broken this down into a number of smaller thought bubbles which I want to write about because doing it this way seems to do it greater justice.  I am able to explore a topic in more detail.
I had not heard this before, but I love it.  He said he sees who he can work with and it is about not just being one day older each day, but being one day better.  I guess it is fairly obvious why that would be up my alley.  I feel so often older people do themselves an injustice.  It can be almost seen that the best days are behind, whereas my thinking for everyone – young and old is that the best days are in front.  It is a cliché I know but it made a huge impression on me. “Your best days are in front of you.”  Lately it is just “the best is yet to be.”
As far as I am concerned my thinking has a huge impact on me.  As they say, “think you can, think you can’t, either way you’ll be right.”  But this is more than a wishful thinking thing.  My security lies in how secure my security is.  It has to be something more than just in my head.  It seems to be my security lies in something found to be solid by millions for millennia.  For me so far so good.  Future outcomes have to do with current inputs. 
As far as I can tell the only limits on me are those I set for myself.  I am all for dreaming big and breaking it down into smaller parts.  Lots of little bits can lead to a lot.  I really do not mind if my potential is not reached.  What matters to me is I am heading in the right direction.
If my hope lies in me alone, I reckon that makes me a pretty miserable person.  Some seem happy to have hope in themselves alone and that is enough.  I just am not like that.  Maybe I could grow rich peddling false hope, but that may temporarily satisfy me and anyone who finds satisfaction in a lie alone.
But each day I want not only to be a day older but a day better.
