A Coal in the Fire

It amazes me how I can hold to something for various reasons, and then I become aware of another analogy that is spot on as far as I am concerned.  I am thinking I don’t hear this one as often as I live in a warm environment (though not as warm as Townsville was).
I reckon it is really important I spend time with people of like mind.  Sometimes I would rather be in bed or watching tele.  That to me is reasonable as a sometimes thing – not a habit thing.
The analogy was when a coal is in a fire with a pile of others, it burns and provides warmth.  If I take it out and put it by itself, it soon becomes cold and is only good as Exhibit A (I added the Exhibit A bit).
I have been saying for a while (because I see it) that the day is coming (and is upon us to some extent) where we will need to band together to solve our own problems.  I just need to see the news and documentaries to know this in not something I just image.  Potentially overwhelming needs are presented and growing.  While the government seemingly does what it can, it’s resources though vast are limited.
(I did hear that in the Ukraine a group are looking at claiming their war home damages on insurance.  The insurance council has said that would bankrupt them.  While I question big business crying poor when they show massive profits, I feel this could wipe out assets in a single stroke.  This is another thing of mine. “I can only help if I have the resources to do so.”).
The point for me is traditional means of help are becoming less and less available.  More and more I reckon the help I need will be more like what I saw in the Brisbane floods with the clean-up army.  People helping each other.
I saw my doctor the other day and I so like his thinking.  He maintains relationships (not talking about doctor/patient relationships).  He makes a point of being there for others as there is a better chance they will be there for him if needed.  In his case it is not so much a get/get thing but a consequence.
It is why I think it is as important as it has ever been that I am a coal in the fire rather than a coal by myself.
