A Bit at a Time

Yesterday was a work in the yard day.  I had no appointments and no reason to leave the place, so I did things in the yard that we want to do.  There are probably still a few days in it but we are gradually getting things the way we would like them.  After doing them, we move on to other things we would like to do.
I guess I am a bit of a gardener.  Though a person would not know that looking at the mess the front yard has been.  Though this is changing.
We have come to the realization that we are good at initiating things, but have reached the stage where maintaining is a bit of a problem.  It was on that basis that someone came in with heaps of mulch and a commitment to look after the front of the yard.  We know we must get regular maintenance to stay on top of things.  I am happy at this point to look after the back yard, but the front has been a bridge too far.
So yesterday I worked on the back.  The first thing I wanted to do was clean out and change the area next to the house.  I had moved a couple of metal garden beds to the very back of the place.  They have gone where Merril has her “orchid.”  That area consists of a dwarf lemon, mango, avocado, and a couple of other trees.  There was room between them to put a couple of garden beds in which we hope to grow vegetables and flowers while having one bed for plant propagation.  So far so good.
Near the home I have cleared out and made a place for pot plants.  I must say I am happy with the results.  And I always gauge the success or otherwise of a project on Merril’s reaction.  It is good and I feel like I am on the right track.
Much of what is done has been started with the big tree going.  We had to move man things away from the tree to enable it to come down.  This has provided a perfect opportunity to rearrange.
Some things I had not thought of have proved to be the way to go.  I had intended putting a heavy metal fish tank stand near our fence but when getting it out of the way, I thought it might be nice somewhere else with our hanging plants on it.  So it now has a new home and is a winner.
There is no doubt some things I do take it out of me, but I do enjoy working on stuff and seeing transformation.  The results make the tiredness worth it.
