A Bit at a Time

I read this this morning and it is a principle I have held to for a while.
“Small things matter when they accumulate. This is one of the main lessons of my work—and one of the principles I try to follow in my life. The details, when finely polished and carefully combined, add up to something remarkable.”
When I was at work we went with a company that said “we are not the biggest.  We are like the seagulls around a trawler.  We get enough.”  When I visited their site I saw big time that they got enough.  The whole organization of which we were a small part, ended up going with them as they did a good job.
The point for me was what I am fond of saying.  “A lot of a little makes a lot.”  I am a “bit at a time” person.  Merril and I are part of a market.  We sell stuff at virtual give away prices.  The aim is not to make a gazillion dollars but to benefit ourselves and others.  We never make a lot but what we do make gets donated to a food pantry.  Petrol money.
The thing is we have never needed armed protection.  My thinking is we have what we did not have.  We do the same thing for Containers for Cash.  We collect and cash in what is given.  Once or twice over two years it has been more than $100 for the month but my thinking is a little bit often adds up.
For me it is the same with useful lessons I learn a long the way.  It is never a big bit all at once but lots of little things I use.  If my mind were filing cabinets, I would perhaps end up needing two rather than one.  But it would be incremental.  An “eventually” thing not an “immediately” thing.
I actually like it that way.  Being overwhelmed is not good for me.
