I remember Simon and Garfunkel singing “still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.”
I was not looking for it, but I heard a fella say what he had said the day before.  Something like, “it seems like the best has been saved till last”  He is getting on.  It gives me hope.
I did have a laugh though, at a memory I have that is decades old.  I just hope the guy is not bitter and twisted as a result.  In Primary school I suggested to this fella that it was good to eat all the way around  a hamburger and then eat the middle bit.  Saving the best till last.  He thought he would try it.  He ate all the way around the burger and was just about to get into the middle bit when someone ran into him and knocked the burger out of his hands.  He never did get to try it.  He went back to his old way.  I don’t blame him.  I still may have the same advice, but with the proviso of eating in a safe place.
This guy talking about getting older said that something is a pet peeve of his and it felt like he had been reading my mail.  It is something I feel strongly about to.  He said there seems to be this idea that when someone reaches 65 that is it.  Beach time.
He said he has noticed that often people just get a handle on something and are doing it well and 65 comes along and end of story.  What someone was getting better at, and was set for maximum impact, remains underdeveloped.
He said he cannot do all he used to do, but he can do some things better.  I like that.  Artificial constraints are not my thing.   I would like to develop what I can while I can.  I guess Colonel Sanders felt the same way.  Developing his recipe late in life and becoming a billionaire at 85.
Something else said was why should younger ones need to learn the hard way what older ones know already.  I happen to think experience is never for me alone.  I know I have gleaned a lot from those that have already been where I am going.
I guess for me it is all about not stopping for the wrong reasons.  As far as I am concerned it ain’t over until it’s over.
